Ingetraut Dahlberg

Ingetraut Dahlberg is now retired. She is a pioneer in knowledge organization and contemporary witness of the German developments in classification research. She received her Ph. D. from the University of Dusseldorf in Germany. She begins her career at the Gmelin Institute as a compiler of bibliographies for the Atomic Energy Documentation Center (at that time part of the Gmelin Institute). During 1963-1970 she was head of the Library and Documentation Center of the German Documentation Society. She worked at the Groth Institute for Crystallographic Data Documentation, Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Florida 1964-65 and also completed a degree at Mary Manse College in Ohio, USA. She founded with others in 1977 the Society for Classification as well as in 1989 the International Society for Knowledge Organization (ICKO). Mrs. Dahlberg founded the journal International Classification (1974), which later became Knowledge Organisation (1993). She also worked FID/CR, UDC, ISO, and Unisist.
